DETROIT, Mich.
(GreenBayPhoenix.com) - The Green Bay softball (12-13, 2-4 HL) team scored
three runs in the first inning of play before falling 7-5 in its final series
game against Detroit (8-26, 1-8 HL) Saturday, April 7 at Buysee Ballpark in
Detroit, Mich.
With two outs in the top of the first inning, Miranda Reinke
(Milwaukee, Wis.) hit an RBI sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Hailey
Mohrfeld (Menominee Falls, Wis.) for the 1-0 lead. Stacey Butts (Greenfield,
Wis.) followed up with a two-run RBI single to right field, scoring Danielle
Peerenboom (Appleton, Wis.) and her sister Shannon for the 3-0 advantage.
The Phoenix closed the first inning scoring three runs on four hits
while stranding two runners on base. With one out in the bottom of the inning,
Detroit hit a two-run homer, cutting Green Bay's lead to 3-2.
With two runners on base and one out in the third inning, Paige Newtols
(Green Bay, Wis.) hit an RBI single to left field scoring Shannon Butts (Greenfield,
Wis.) and boosting Green Bay's lead to 4-2. Detroit added an RBI single of its
own in the bottom of the inning to make it a 4-3 game.
Detroit took a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after scoring
four runs off four hits.
Stacey Butts led off the final inning with a solo homerun to left
field, cutting the Titans' lead to 7-5. The homer was Butts' first of her
career with the Phoenix.
Green Bay finished the game with 10 hits and one error. The Phoenix
will travel to Minnesota Wednesday, April 11 for a nonconference doubleheader
against the Gophers.
