GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Senior Sam Krenzien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) continued his strong play and Lawrence Talery (Coon Rapids, Minn.) connected on a penalty kick in the 68th minute to help the Green Bay men's soccer team best UNC Asheville, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Greenwood Field.

The win concluded a five-game span of games for the Phoenix away from Santaga Stadium, as the team finished the road trip with a record of 2-2-1 and moved to 5-2-2 overall on the season. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 3-6-0.

A week off from competition didn't slow Krenzien down as he gave the Phoenix an early 1-0 lead with his eighth goal of the season in the 18th minute. Talery sent a pass to Krenzien on a breakaway, and he was able to defeat sprawling Asheville keeper Dan Jackson for the lead. Krenzien now has 10 points (4g, 2a) over the last three games and has recorded at least one point in seven of Green Bay's nine matches this season

Audi Jepson (Green Bay, Wis.) looked to add to the score in the 22nd minute but his shot hit the crossbar before Tyler Swanner (Glen Carbon, Ill.) sent a shot on goal that was collected by Jackson.

The Bulldogs responded in the 26th minute, tying the game on a goal by Bobby Castro, and the score remained knotted going into halftime.

A penalty goal kick by Talery in the 68th minute pushed the Phoenix ahead again. After the Bulldogs were called for a foul on the edge of the box, a PK was awarded and Talery stepped up, booting the ball in to the left corner of the goal for the final 2-1 margin.

For the match, the Phoenix led in shots, 21-9, including 11-3 on goal. Asheville owned a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks. Kyle Ihn (Wales, Wis.) played the entire match in net and made two saves en route to his fourth win of the season.

Green Bay now turns its focus to conference play as it returns to Santaga Stadium on Saturday to take on Valparaiso at 3 p.m.
