YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Less than 24 hours after last night's season-opening win over Wright State, the Green Bay women's swimming and diving team was able to improve to 2-0 on the young season with a 182-118 victory over Youngstown State on Friday at the Beeghly Center Natatorium.
Green Bay broke a pair of pool records on Friday, and senior Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) and sophomore Racheal Weiland (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) both won two individual races as the Phoenix claimed 10 of the meet's 13 events.
Wolf won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races with times of 24.43 and 53.52, while Weiland claimed the 200 free (1:56.08) and the 200 breaststroke (2:26.48). Wolf was also a member of Green Bay's pool-record-breaking 200 free relay (1:37.74) in the meet's final event, teaming up with a trio of freshmen in Claire Walters (Northfield, Minn.), Samantha Rottel (New Berlin, Wis.) and Claire Friederick (Lancaster, Wis.).
Four other Phoenix freshmen picked up individual wins on Friday. Haley Lucas (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) finished first in the 200 butterfly, setting a new pool record of 2:06.04, Alyssa Udean (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) powered her way to a long-distance triumph in the 1650 free (17:50.30), Autumn Roepsch (Dubuque, Iowa) raced to a win in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.05) and Natalie Neuwirth (Stevens Point, Wis.) earned a win in the 200 IM (2:12.26).
Sophomore Anna Gomez (Burlington, Wis.) recorded Green Bay's ninth individual victory of the night, finishing first in the 500 free in 5:08.20.
Both the Phoenix men's and women's squads will be back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. CT at Cleveland State, finishing up the three-day, three-meet Horizon League road stretch.
