CANFIELD, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team rallied with a pair of late-inning runs, but could not overcome a 4-0 deficit as the visiting Phoenix (10-20, 3-7 HL) fell 4-2 at Youngstown State (12-19, 6-7 HL) Saturday afternoon at McCune Park.

The Phoenix and the Penguins were originally slated to play two games on Saturday, but cold weather and wind chills forced the teams to wrap up the three-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. CT.

Youngstown State built a 4-0 lead through five innings, scoring once in the second, once in the third and twice in the fifth. Senior Sarah Gabel went 2-for-2 and crossed the plate twice for the Penguins, while freshman Miranda Castiglione hit a two-run home run in home half of the fifth.

The Phoenix got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when freshman Marissa Michalkiewicz (Appleton, Wis.) belted a solo homer of her own, her third of the year, cutting the YSU lead to 4-1. Green Bay made it 4-2 in the seventh when junior Stacey Butts (Greenfield, Wis.) singled up the middle to drive in freshman Alyssa Johnson (Elmhurst, Ill.), but the Phoenix would not get any closer.

Casey Crozier (11-6) earned the win for YSU, pitching five scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out seven. Senior Allison Goecks (Beloit, Wis.) (5-7) pitched all six innings for the Phoenix, striking out six batters and giving up six hits.
