LOUISVILLE, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay Phoenix men's tennis team traveled to Kentucky to take on another nationally-ranked opponent on Saturday.
Green Bay was able to claim a point in the match when junior Howard Scott (Exeter, England) tallied a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles, but the Phoenix eventually fell to the Cardinals 4-1.
Senior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany), who is currently ranked No. 94 in singles play by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, faced a fellow-ranked opponent in Albert Wagner of Louisville, who is ranked No. 104. Wagner claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tenzer in the top singles spot.
The Phoenix (7-4) tied the doubles matches at 1-1 when No. 3 doubles team Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) and Florian Kraenzler (Puchheim, Germany) claimed a 6-3 victory, but Louisville (11-2) closed out the doubles point with wins and No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Islinger was tied 4-4 in the second set at No. 2 singles when Louisville clinched the victory, he did not finish his match. The same went for Joshua Schramm (Brunsbuttel, Germany), who was leading 6-5 in the second set of his match at No. 5 singles when the Cardinals closed it out.
Green Bay hit the road after the match and headed to Indianapolis, Ind. where the Phoenix will face Butler on Sunday at 10 a.m. Green Bay is in the middle of a 10-match road trip and will not return to home action until Saturday, April 11.
