Green Bay Men's Tennis Picks Up Win Over IPFW

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay men's tennis is in the midst of three straight days of competition in the state of Michigan, with the Phoenix picking up a win on Saturday, Feb. 7.

Green Bay defeated IPFW 6-1, securing the doubles point by winning No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The No. 1 team of senior Michael Tenzer (Neuried, Germany) and junior Howard Scott (Exeter, England) notched a 7-5 victory, while Green Bay's No. 3 doubles team of junior Leopold Gomez Islinger (Weiden, Germany) and junior Marius Merz (Heidelberg, Germany) won by a 7-5 score as well.

The Phoenix was excellent in singles play, winning five of the six matches. Tenzer, Islinger and Scott won at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Sophomore Joshua Schramm (Brunsbuttel, Germany) picked up a win at No. 5 singles, while junior Joey Leto (Downers Grove, Ill.) won at No. 6 singles.

Green Bay improved to 4-3 as a team this season and will face Horizon League foe Detroit on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 5 p.m.

One day earlier Green Bay took the court against Western Michigan, with the home team winning 5-2.

Western Michigan secured the doubles point by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Green Bay's Islinger and freshman Florian Kraenzler (Puchheim, Germany) won their singles matches at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
