GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Following a successful weekend for Green Bay volleyball in Manhattan, Kan., senior libero Jillian Bauer was named the Horizon League's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for games played Aug. 31- Sept. 6.
The native of Verona, Wis., recorded a team-high 71 digs in 10 sets of action, including 27 in Green Bay's 3-0 sweep of Cal, which was two digs shy of the program record for most in a three-set match (29) set by Brittany Groth on August 25, 2012. The Phoenix's win over Cal was its first over a current Pac-12 school in the history of the program, and came less than 24 hours after beating a member of the current Mountain West – UNLV – for just the second time ever.
For her contributions, Bauer was selected to the K-State Varney's Invitational All-Tournament Team, her second All-Tournament distinction in two weeks to start the 2015 season. The player-of-the-week award is Bauer's third in as many years as a student-athlete at Green Bay. She also received the honor in Nov. 2013 and October of last year.
The Phoenix (4-2) look to continue its good start to the 2015 campaign on Thursday, when they will participate in the UND Classic in Grand Forks, N.D., beginning at 7:00 p.m. against North Dakota. The five-team tournament also features Jacksonville State, Drake and South Dakota.
