GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Appearing in the first leg of a three-city road trip, the Green Bay men's tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to host Western Michigan on Friday night in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Despite picking up a 7-5 win from the pairing of Howard Scott and Joey Leto, the Phoenix ultimately fell to the Broncos 2-1 in doubles competition to trail the match 1-0.
In singles, the Broncos' Ruben Greiner defeated Leto at No. 5; however, Green Bay cut its deficit in half after reigning Horizon League Player of the Week, Leopold Gomez Islinger, improved to 4-0 this season in No. 1 singles following a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Jefta Kecic, who was a 2015 All-MAC First Team Selection.
Unfortunately things did not go the Phoenix's way the remainder of the evening, as Western Michigan, the favorites to win the MAC Conference this season, picked up the remaining four matches to win by the final margin.
Green Bay will travel to Indianapolis before taking on Butler tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. (CT), before wrapping up its second weekend of play against Toledo on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
