CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team concluded play at the UNI-Dome classic this morning, taking the diamond against Nebraska at 8 a.m. Green Bay (2-3) suffered its third-straight loss to the Cornhuskers (4-0), falling 8-0 in five innings.

Nebraska 8, Green Bay 0       

Nebraska jumped out to an early lead over the Phoenix, plating two runs in the first inning off of a Marjani Knighten home run to right-center field. The Phoenix was able to keep the high-powered Nebraska offense off the board in the second inning, but was unable to get any runs of its own to lower the two-run deficit.

Abby Brinkmeier erased the possibility of the Cornhuskers' Cassie McClure throwing a no-hitter in the fourth inning, when the junior singled to give the Phoenix its first baserunner of the day.

Nebraska ended the game in the fifth inning on a three-run home run from Alicia Armstrong, bringing the score to 8-0 and forcing the implementation of the run-rule.

Sophomore Katie Rossmann spent the entire game in the circle for the Phoenix on Sunday morning, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and eight earned runs.

The Phoenix will return to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 19 against Loyola and IUPUI in the Total Control Invitational in Rosemont, Ill. Green Bay will also have matchups with Western Illinois (Feb. 20), Eastern Kentucky (Feb. 20) and Quinnipiac (Feb. 21)
