GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team began a three-game set with Youngstown State (22-16, 9-5 HL) on Friday afternoon, falling to the Penguins 10-4 at Phoenix Field.
YSU second baseman Brittney Moffatt set the tone in the first inning by launching a 3-run home run off Green Bay starter Bailey Smaney, part of a four-run opening frame for the Penguins.
Moffatt went 3-for-3 with 6 RBIs on the afternoon, as third-place Youngstown State jumped out to a 9-1 lead after three innings and did not look back.
Six Phoenix players recorded hits in the game, including three of the run-scoring variety from its 3-4-5 hitters Acacia Tupa (1-for-4, 2 RBI), Allie Taylor (1-for-3, 1 RBI) and Brennan Engel (1-for-3, 1 RBI).
Green Bay (15-25, 6-6 HL) will look to get back on track tomorrow as it hosts an afternoon doubleheader. First pitch from Phoenix Field is scheduled for noon, with Game 2 to follow shortly afterward.
Before Game 1, Green Bay will hold a pre-game ceremony for five seniors as part of "Senior Day."
