GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team closed out its three-game series with Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Penguins for the third-straight game, 5-1.

Green Bay (2-30, 1-15) fell only a single hit shy of Youngstown State (23-24, 11-7) in the Sunday afternoon contest, amassing nine to YSU's 10, but the Phoenix lacked run production as the squad stranded 10 on the base pads.
It was the third inning before either team saw a run cross the plate, with the Penguins bringing home a pair to give its offense a jumpstart.
Green Bay responded in the bottom of the third with some smart running on the pads. With runners on the corners, Allie Taylor took off for second and forced the Penguins' defense to chase her down, giving Abby Brinkmeier more than enough time to race home from third to give the Phoenix its first run of the day.
Youngstown State would add one run in the sixth and two more in the seventh before holding the Phoenix scoreless in its last plate appearances to seal a 5-1 victory and series sweep.
Katie Rossmann spent six innings in the circle for Green Bay and allowed nine hits, four runs and picked up two strikeouts. Sinead Korvela came on in relief of Rossmann in the seventh, allowed one hit, one run and struck out one batter.
Caitlyn Minney put in seven innings of work for Youngstown State and picked up her sixth win of the season.
Hailee Frey (2-for-3), Chyanne Onstad (2-for-4) and Abby Brinkmeier (2-for-3) all notched multi-hit afternoons for the Phoenix.
Green Bay's next action will come in a mid-week matchup against in-state rival Wisconsin, as the Phoenix hits the road for a Wednesday doubleheader against the Badgers with the first game beginning at 3 p.m.
