HOUGHTON, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The Green Bay Nordic Skiing team competed at the MTU CXC Cup this weekend in Houghton, Michigan, making their final preparations for their CCSA races in January. On Saturday, the Phoenix men raced in the 10K classic start, while the women's team participated in the 5K, and on Sunday, both rosters took on a 10K freestyle mass start.

Redshirt sophomore
Sadie Peterson continues to lead the Green Bay women, stopping the clock at 17:02.0 for 19th overall during Saturday's 5K classic. Classmates
Maria Schoening and
Mina Anderberg turned in a 50th-place finish at 18:53.9 and 95th-place time of 21:39.9, respectively.

The Phoenix saw a similar story in Sunday's 10K freestyle, with Peterson earning an impressive 10th place in the longer race with a time of 31:30.8. Schoening clocked in at 35:39.4 for 36th, while Anderberg was 63rd in 40:46.2.

In the 10K classic, redshirt sophomore
Tom Woolhouse had a strong back-half race to take home a 14th-place finish, crossing the line at 28:30.8. Redshirt senior
Jake Ajax was the next Phoenix finisher, taking 19th with a time of 28:47.1, and sophomore
Shad Kraftson rounded out the top three at 29:11.2, good for 24th in the nearly 130-man field.

The same trio threw down in the next day's 10K, where Ajax showed up to claim 20th in 27:40.8. Kraftson and Woolhouse were not too far off, each under the 29-minute mark. Kraftson placed 27th with a time of 28:24.3, while Woolhouse took 32nd with a time of 28:41.1.

The Green Bay Nordic Ski team will use the upcoming winter break to train before getting into the heat of their 2018-19 season. In mid-January, the Phoenix will take on a CCSA/CXC Cup in Hayward, Wisconsin with competition beginning on Jan. 19 and ending on Jan. 20.
