Rhinelander, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay Nordic Skiing team hosted the CCSA Conference Championships this past weekend, finishing in fourth place as a team on both sides as well as a full, co-ed roster. In the women's 5k classic race, sophomore
Oda Karlsen Bekkestad was the top collegiate finisher, taking 14
th place with a time of 17:42.1. Redshirt junior
Mykaela McMullen and freshman
Anna Zajakowski rounded out the scoring ladies on Saturday. McMullen placed 18
th with a time of 18:21, while Zajakowski earned 21
st in 18:40.3.
The other Phoenix women in the race included redshirt junior
Maddie McKeefry, redshirt senior
Kayla Billett, and redshirt freshmen
Maria Schoening and
Mina Anderberg. They placed 23
rd, 25
th, 31
st, and 34
th, respectively.
On the men's side, the top finisher in the 10k classic race was the usual leader in senior
Jake Ajax, taking 14
th in the collegiate field with a time of 29:45.6. Redshirt sophomore
Quinn Duffy was the next to stop the clock, earning 17
th in 29:58.1, while redshirt freshman
Tom Woolhouse rounded out the top three by finishing 21
st with a time of 30:28.6.
Also racing was the group of redshirt sophomore
Cory Rouw, redshirt freshman
Sam Myers, and true freshman
Shad Kraftson. Rouw and Myers took 26
th and 27
th, respectively, while Kraftson finished 29
th in the field.
On Sunday, in the 15k freestyle race, McMullen was the leader for the women this time, finishing 13
th with a time of 48:38.1. Bekkestad and Zajakowski held steady in the top three as well. Bekkestad took 16
th, crossing the line at 49:51.1, while Zajakowski finished in 25
th with a time of 53:30.1.
In the 20k, Ajax led the squad yet again, finishing 17
th in the collegiate field with a time of 54:35.5. Duffy and Woolhouse stayed in their spots on the team as well. Duffy took 21
st as the second Phoenix to finish, earning a time of 55:48.9, while Woolhouse placed 24
th with a finishing time of 56:25.2.
The Nordic Ski team will be leaving this Thursday to travel to Ispeming, Michigan this weekend. They will be competing in the Ishpeming Supertour as well as CCSA Regionals.
