On Saturday, the team raced in a classic sprint, in which contenders were narrowed down to a quarterfinal race, semifinal race, and then of course, finals. The men saw several Phoenix advance throughout the day, but the biggest success was seeing two Green Bay skiers on the top of the podium at the end of it all. Redshirt senior
Jake Ajax won the final heat with a time of 3:20.23, followed by redshirt sophomore
Tom Woolhouse and his 3:23.62.
Â
Also racing amongst the top six finalists was redshirt junior
Cory Rouw, who clocked in at 3:30.69. Top twelve semifinalists included sophomore
Shad Kraftson, redshirt sophomore
Sam Myers, and redshirt freshman
Ian Ivens, showing the depth of the squad. They finished with times of 3:29.16, 3:35.64, and 3:37.63, respectively.
Â
On the women's side, redshirt sophomore
Maria Schoening, redshirt senior
Maddie McKeefry, and redshirt sophomore
Sadie Peterson advanced to the quarterfinals, each racing in different heats, but none were able to qualify for the next round. Peterson posted the fastest time, stopping the clock at 4:12.35, followed by McKeefry at 4:13.16 and Schoening at 4:15.65.
Â
Sunday's mass start was more routine for the Phoenix, and Woolhouse was consistent, returning to lead the men with a ninth-place finish of 26:53.2. This time, freshman
Ryan Mead also shined, coming right behind his teammate with a time of 26:57.4. Rounding out the top three Green Bay competitors was Kraftson, taking 14th in 27:02.9.
Â
However, it was Peterson who took home the highest finish of the day out of all the Phoenix on Sunday, making her way to fourth place with a time of 31:28.9. McKeefry claimed tenth, coming in at 32:39.8, and junior Oda Bekkestad placed 21st by crossing the line at 33:42.3 to sum up the top three.
