Box Score 2 ROSEMONT, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team opened its 2019 campaign in Rosemont, Ill., on Friday, taking the diamond for games against Purdue Fort Wayne and DePaul. The season opener came in the morning hours against PFW and concluded with a 3-1 Phoenix win. GB wrapped up Friday's slate in the evening against DePaul, falling in extra innings, 5-4.
Kayla Schwebke was in the circle for the first pitch of the Phoenix season and finished with a complete game, dealing for seven innings and allowing three hits, zero earned runs while striking out five batters.
A total of 10 hits were notched by the Phoenix offense, with Tiffany Giese leading the way and going 3-for-3 against the Mastodons. Bailey Schultz and Crystal Guzman also enjoyed multi-hit games in the pairing.
Jenna Smarzinski, Morgan Bihun and Kalyssa Koehn tallied RBIs for Green Bay.
The Phoenix returns to the diamond in the Total Control Invitational tomorrow morning for a matchup with Western Illinois at 9 a.m. and a rematch with DePaul at 11:30 a.m.
