Green Bay Picks Up Key Win Over Youngstown State 102-92, in Position for No. 3 Seed

GREEN BAY (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- A combined six players reached double-figures and Green Bay ran past Youngstown State 102-92 on Thursday night at the Resch Center, in what appears to have put the Phoenix in a "control its own destiny" situation. GB (15-15, 10-7 HL) now sits in a tie with UIC for third place, and has clinched no lower than the No. 4 seed as well. Pending the many tiebreakers in play, the Phoenix will seemingly get the No. 3 seed with a win over Cleveland State on Saturday night at the Kress Center.

Scoring his 1,000th career point in his Green Bay career, senior JayQuan McCloud poured in a game-high 23 points, had four assists and four rebounds. McCloud went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line, and iced the game away late in the game with those charity stripe makes. Five other players notched double-figure efforts, with Kameron Hankerson (17 points), Amari Davis (15 points), Manny Patterson (14 points), PJ Pipes (13 points) and Trevian Bell (10 points) all scoring in the win.

GB led by as many as 18 points in the game, before YSU made a late surge at a comeback bid. The Phoenix wouldn't miss at the line though, going 25-for-27 as a team from the free throw line.

As a team, GB shot 58.1 percent in the game and went 56.3 percent from 3-point range. It's the fifth time in the last nine games that GB has shot 50 percent or better, and the team continues to lead the Horizon League in that category.

The Phoenix also assisted on 21 of its 34 made field goals, and earned the split with the Penguins (16-14, 9-8 HL) this season.

The Horizon League plans to release tiebreaking scenarios on Friday, which will paint a clearer picture on what's on the line. One thing is clear, GB can't finish lower than No. 4.

GB will honor its four seniors in its next game, hosting Cleveland State at the Kress Center for Krash the Kress on Saturday night at 7 p.m. The Phoenix knocked off the Vikings (11-19, 7-10 HL) earlier this season in Cleveland.
