Membership-led #UnitedAsOne campaign launches
NCAA schools band together on social media to show support, unity during COVID-19 health crisis
The #UnitedAsOne campaign, created and led by NCAA member schools, started to form less than 24 hours after the remaining NCAA winter and spring championships were canceled due to the evolving global health threat surrounding COVID-19.
Unity, at an unprecedented time, became a rallying cry among the membership of more than 1,100 schools and nearly 500,000 student-athletes across three divisions. It started small. A group of about 50 digital and social media creatives within different athletics departments began direct messaging each other on Twitter on Friday.
"As you may already know, the welfare of our student-athletes is our highest priority. Decisions made by our leadership team and coaching staff are guided by two principles: the health and safety of our student-athletes, and continued academic support and guidance," said Director of Athletics
Charles Guthrie. "Our actions have been and will continue to be consistent with those of the university. Please know, we have the finest academic support service team in the Horizon League, and they are working daily with all student-athletes to maintain our academic success."
