GREEN BAY'S LAST TIME OUT
The Phoenix won three out of four games against UIC this past weekend in Green Bay, the Horizon League preseason favorites. GB scored 27 total runs on the weekend (9 runs in each game), sweeping both games Friday and bouncing back after a game one loss on Saturday to claim game two. GB hit a scorching .369 on the weekend, totaling 38 hits in the four games with four home runs and drawing 18 walks. Defensively, three different pitchers earned a win for the Phoenix, with Kayla Schwebke, Gabby Palisa and Brittany Baneck each earning a W. In the three wins, the pitchers allowed 13 earned runs and gave up 29 hits.

TERRIFIC TIFFANY
Tiffany Giese led the Phoenix at the plate this past week, earning Horizon League Softball Player of the Week honors. Giese went 10-for-20 through the six games and recorded four multi-hit outings. She scored seven runs for the Phoenix and tallied four RBIs. This past weekend marked the first time Green Bay defeated UIC since 2016 and the first time the Phoenix took a series from the Chicago-based team since 2014.

GETTING IT DONE
Freshman catcher Samantha Saloun has batted .386 with seven doubles, one home run, and 13 RBI in 20 starts. She leads the team in several categories such as extra-base hits, on-base percentage (.478), slugging percentage (.561), and OPS (1.039). Reigning Horizon League Player of the Week Tiffany Giese has slashed .358/.375/.453 in 20 starts. The pitching duo of Brittany Bank and Kayla Schwebke has combined for 13 complete games, 12 wins, and three shutouts. Both pitchers have an ERA below 3.00.

PUTTING UP NUMBERS
Green Bay sits second in the HL in batting average in league games with a .297, second in runs scored with 73 and leads the league in hits with 113. It has drawn the most walks (44), most HBPs (12) and also leads the league in stolen bases with 20. Defensively, GB is second in fielding percentage at .967, with only 13 errors in 397 chances. GB has caught five runners stealing and has turned four double plays.

SCOUTING OAKLAND
Last weekend, Oakland endured its first Horizon League series loss of the season at Robert Morris. The Golden Grizzlies routed the Colonials in the series opener with a 10-1 victory but dropped the following three games. Two of the three losses were decided by one run. RMU limited the OU offense to five runs in the three-game span. In conference-only action, OU holds top-three HL marks in batting average (.291, 3rd), home runs (10, 3rd), RBI (55, 3rd), slugging percentage (.459, 2nd), runs (73, 2nd), hits (104, 2nd), and stolen bases (13, 3rd). Through 12 conference games, the Golden Grizzlies have scored five or more runs seven times.

SEASON AHEAD
Green Bay will play 40 Horizon League games this season, its most-ever scheduled. GB was picked last in the Horizon League, after not playing a single HL game last season due to COVID-19 shutting the season down. That makes for extra motivation for GB in Sara Kubuske's second season.
