EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The second of five invites to begin the 2023 season is upon the Green Bay softball team. GB opened the season last weekend and went 2-3 at the Incarnate Word Invitational. This weekend, the Phoenix will play five games from Saturday through Monday, battling Southern Indiana, the University of Texas-Martin, and Evansville, which is hosting the UE Softball Invitational.

LAST TIME OUT
Green Bay earned a hard-fought 3-2 win over the University of the Incarnate Word in their final game of the Incarnate Word Invitational on Sunday, February 12. Paige Hanson collected two of GB's eight hits, going 2-for-4. Samantha Saloun was also busy at the plate, finishing 1-for-2 while driving two runs. Saloun delivered the dagger with an RBI double in the seventh inning, putting the Phoenix ahead 3-2. The victory was GB's second straight.

ON THE SAME PAIGE
Sophomore Paige Hanson, one of eight freshmen and 10 newcomers this season, is off to a scorching start. The Cottage Grove, Wis., native, hit .364 across four games (three starts) at the Incarnate Word Invitational. She tied Jadin Justman for the most hits (4) and total bases (5) for the Phoenix at the tournament. She tallied at least one base hit in three of her four appearances.
DOUBLE B
Brittany Baneck was key on the weekend for Green Bay. A graduate of nearby Green Bay Preble high school, Baneck posted a 3.63 ERA in 17.1 innings of work at the Incarnate Word Invitational. The Green Bay native has dominated the past two seasons, setting a career-best 2.70 ERA in 2021 before following it up with a 3.02 ERA last season.
