GREEN BAY, Wis. – It's home sweet home for the Green Bay softball team as the Phoenix prepares for their first game at King Park in 2023 when they welcome the Robert Morris Colonials on Friday and Saturday. Last season, GB went 7-6 at home and is 17-10 at King Park since it's opening in 2021.

LAST MATCHUP
Green Bay's game at Northern Kentucky on March 17 was canceled, but the Phoenix still opened Horizon League play at the Norse on March 16 in a doubleheader. In game 1, the Norse exploded to a 7-0 lead after two innings. Sam Saloun crushed her team-leading third home run of the season, but the Norse would respond with three more runs in the bottom of the frame and never look back for a 10-1 victory. NKU came out scorching again in game 2, taking a commanding 9-1 lead after the first three innings. Green Bay would attempt a comeback, ignited by a Jadin Justman grand slam that cut the deficit in half. Kaylin Fahy would add a sacrifice fly, but it was all GB could muster in a 9-6 loss.

Junior Samantha Saloun is one of GB's most consistent hitters through the team's first 26 games. The SPASH graduate currently leads (min. 12 ABs) the Phoenix in:

Saloun's OPS marks the fifth-highest in the Horizon League.
SPEED DEMONS
The Phoenix has been lethal on the basepaths, swiping 15 bases in 17 attempts. Tiffany Giese is 4-for-4, while Justman is 3-for-5. Paige Hanson, Hailey Heckenlaible, and Randi McKay are 2-for-2. Kendal Herschbach and Kaylin Fahy have each stolen one base as well.
TOUGH TIFFANY
Outfielder Tiffany Giese has had a hot hand at the dish recently. She strung together a 10-game hitting streak from February 26 to March 12, collecting 12 hits in 31 at-bats (.387 average). Green Bay's leadoff man went 3-for-3 in GB's last outing at Northern Kentucky on March 16, scoring a run and drawing a walk in GB's 9-6 loss. Giese is also knocking on the door of becoming the all-time hits leader in Green Bay softball history. Giese currently has 154 career hits, just 14 shy of Katie Cooney for the record.
BEST OF BANECK
Brittany Baneck has been one of the best pitchers in the Horizon League so far this season. She holds just a 2.33 ERA, third-best in the conference while pitching the second-most innings in the league at 75.0. Baneck is 6-6 with one shutout on the year.
NEW PHOENIX FACES
Green Bay officially welcomed Mary Bean as an assistant coach on January 25. The Phoenix also welcomes 10 newcomers to the squad in 2023.
