LAST MATCHUP
Green Bay softball snapped a nine-game losing skid by splitting a doubleheader against Horizon League foe Robert Morris Friday afternoon. The Phoenix dropped the opening game before closing out a tight contest in game two. Friday's matchup was the first time GB has played on their home turf in 2023. RMU took the first game 6-0, with the Colonials turning three Green Bay errors into four unearned runs. Paeton Kringel was sensational in the circle for Green Bay, surrendering just two unearned runs in seven innings while racking up 11 strikeouts.

In the second contest, the Phoenix got on the board in the first inning after McKay snuck an RBI single past Winchell at first base to make it 1-0. GB extended its lead in the second when Jadin Justman ripped a double to the left-center gap, scoring Giese and Gianna SanchezPaige Hanson would ensue with an RBI double, bringing Green Bay's lead to 4-0. In a dramatic seventh inning, GB starter Kelly Greene got Kinsey Ventura to ground out to avenge GB's game one loss with a 5-4 victory.

SAM-I-AM
Junior Samantha Saloun is one of GB's most consistent hitters through the team's first 26 games. The SPASH graduate currently leads (min. 12 ABs) the Phoenix in:

  • OPS (.886)
  • Doubles (7)
  • RBIs (18)
  • Total bases (38)
  • Slugging percentage (.507)

Saloun's OPS is also the sixth-highest in the Horizon League.

SPEED DEMONS
The Phoenix has been lethal on the basepaths, swiping 18 bases in 21 attempts (85.7-percent conversion). Tiffany Giese is 7-for-7, while Justman is 3-for-5. Paige HansonHailey Heckenlaible, and Randi McKay are 2-for-2. Kendal Herschbach and Kaylin Fahy have each stolen one base as well.

DUCK DUCK GIESE
Outfielder Tiffany Giese has had a hot hand at the dish recently. She strung together a 10-game hitting streak from February 26 to March 12, collecting 12 hits in 31 at-bats (.387 average). Green Bay's leadoff man went 3-for-3 in GB's last outing at Northern Kentucky on March 16, scoring a run and drawing a walk in GB's 9-6 loss. She followed that up by going 3-for-6 in two games versus Robert Morris while swiping three bases. Giese is also knocking on the door of becoming the all-time hits leader in Green Bay softball history. Giese currently has 157 career hits, just 11 shy of Katie Cooney for the record.

KRINGEL CRUSHIN' IT
Paeton Kringel showed out last Friday against Robert Morris. The freshman from New London, Wisconsin gave up just two earned runs in seven innings, posting her first career complete game.
