GREEN BAY, Wis. – After three weeks on the road, the Green Bay softball team returns home to King Park for a five-game homestand beginning Friday against Youngstown State. The Phoenix will host the Penguins for three games on Friday and Saturday before welcoming St. Thomas to Titletown next Tuesday for a doubleheader.

LAST MATCHUP
The Green Bay Phoenix got three hits from senior Tiffany Giese in a 7-1 loss to the Cleveland State Vikings Saturday. Giese made history on Friday, breaking the all-time hits record for Green Bay Softball with 169 and she continues to add on.
Freshman Paeton Kringel (3-8) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. Freshman Kelly Greene was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit.
Giese's three-hit day led the Phoenix offensively. Junior Jadin Justman put together a standout performance at the dish, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Freshman Gianna Sanchez also chipped in for Green Bay, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.
ONE FOR THE BOOKS
Tiffany Giese broke Green Bay's all-time stolen bases record last season and etched her name into the record book again last Friday, becoming the all-time hits leader in program history. The record was previously set by Katie Cooney from 2007-2011 when she racked up 168 hits in four years. Giese has 176 career hits with 11 games remaining in the 2023 regular season.
ON THE SAME PAIGE
Freshman Paige Hanson has been a key piece in Green Bay's lineup this season, posting the team's second-highest batting average (.302) through 39 games played. One of eight true freshmen and 10 total newcomers, her 29 hits and 11 RBIs rank third on the team.
DUCK DUCK GIESE
Outfielder Tiffany Giese continues to be one of the best leadoff hitters in the Horizon League. She strung a 10-game hitting streak from February 26 to March 12, collecting 12 hits in 31 at-bats (.387 average). Giese is sensational on the base paths with great speed, proven by 15 stolen bases in 16 attempts this season. She pieced together another six-game hitting streak from March 16 to March 31, going 11-for-17 (.647). In GB's series against Cleveland State last weekend, she went 8-for-12 (.667). Her batting average (.359) leads the squad and is fourth in the HL.
BANECK'S BACK
Brittany Baneck returned from injury on April 7 and remains dominant for the Phoenix in the circle. She has posted a team-best 3.10 ERA, which ranks ninth in the Horizon League. Opponents are hitting just .249 in HL play off Baneck, tied for the fifth-highest mark in the conference. A native of Green Bay and a Green Bay Preble high school graduate, Baneck has tossed eight complete games, surrendering just 45 earned runs in 101.2 innings of work.
NEW PHOENIX FACES
Green Bay officially welcomed Mary Bean as an assistant coach on January 25. The Phoenix also welcomes 10 newcomers to the squad in 2023.
