GREEN BAY, Wis. – The September 6 edition of the Phoenix Weekly is here! This week's events include away games for volleyball, both soccer teams, as well as the second annual Phoenix Open hosted by the Green Bay cross country program at the Phoenix Alumni Cross Country Course at Shorewood.

WEEK IN REVIEW
CROSS COUNTRY
The 2023 season got underway this past Saturday at the Tom Barry Invite hosted at the Phoenix Alumni Cross Country Course at Shorewood. Kelsey Radobicky highlighted the day for the Phoenix with a first-place finish in the women's 5K (18:33.45). The Phoenix men took home first place, led by a second-place individual finish from Riley Siltman, who finished the men's 6K in 18:49.94.

GOLF
Summer is coming to a close, but the Green Bay women's golf team started the 2023 fall season this week, placing 7th at the A-GA-Ming Invitational in Kewadin, Mich. Freshman Riley Pechinski had a strong performance in her first collegiate outing, finishing in a tie for ninth place overall. The Green Bay men's team concluded their first fall tournament today, the AFL Fall Classic. The Phoenix finished 12th as a team, led by a T29 (+7) finish from Logan Pechinski.

MEN'S SOCCER
The men's soccer team has begun the 2023 season in style. Green Bay opened September by thrashing Southern Indiana 7-0 at Aldo Santaga Stadium on Friday. Chris Album scored three goals, marking the first hat trick since Audi Jepson racked up five goals in an 8-0 shutout of Viterbo in 2014. The victory was also the largest since that Viterbo contest. Album's sensational effort earned him Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week yesterday. After its victory over USI, the Phoenix head to Boston, where they tied Boston College 0-0 on Labor Day. GB outshot the Eagles 17-9, but both squads put in strong defensive performances that kept the game scoreless.

VOLLEYBALL
Volleyball had a challenging week down south at the Clemson Invitational, falling in three matches to South Alabama, Western Carolina, and Clemson. The Phoenix battled injury and illness to the team's setters, which resulted in them playing their final game of the weekend without a setter. Tiffany Paalman was a standout for Green Bay, being named to the Clemson Invitational All-Tournament Team after finishing the weekend with 34 kills on a .356 attack percentage.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Green Bay women's soccer had just two games on the docket in the past week. Their contest at North Florida, originally scheduled for August 31, was canceled due to Hurricane Idalia. The team was able to avoid the hurricane on Sunday when they played Stetson to a 1-1 draw. Elle Hill scored her first goal of 2023, but the Hatters answered in the 81st minute. The match marked a homecoming for Graduate Assistant Coach Sydney McKee, who was a Hatter from 2019-2023.
