Big Game from Genke Helps Green Bay Stave Off Mastodons

Three Phoenix score 14 points; win streak moves to seven consecutive

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Four Phoenix reached double figures as Green Bay pulled off a 70-61 win over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Wednesday night in a #HLWBB standalone game. Green Bay has won seven in a row and is still in a heated battle for first place with Cleveland State.

Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, Natalie McNeal, and Callie Genke each tallied 14 points in the victory. Genke scored all 14 of GB's bench points. Green Bay (24-5, 17-2 HL) got 10 points from Cassie Schiltz and another nine from Bailey Butler. Kondrakiewicz racked up 12 rebounds, tying a season-high while recording her sixth career double-double and her second this season.

PFW (19-11, 12-7 HL) was led by 16 points from Renna Schwieterman.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was 2-2 in the opening moments of the contest before Green Bay rattled off a 20-3 run, culminating in a layup from Genke to make it 22-5. The Phoenix got off to a fast start, shooting 60 percent (9-of-15) in the opening frame. GB cooled off slightly in the second stanza but led by no fewer than 14 thanks to a valiant effort by McNeal, who scored six of the team's 13 points in the quarter. The recently named Horizon League All-Academic Team member helped guide the Phoenix to a 37-19 halftime lead.

Purdue Fort Wayne started to close the gap out of the break, ending the third quarter on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 10 after GB opened the frame with a 20-point advantage. A triple each from Schwieterman and Graber helped tighten the screws. PFW made Green Bay uncomfortable in the fourth quarter, bringing it to 58-54 after a Shayla Sellers trey. Minutes later, Genke drilled a corner triple to give GB a seven-point lead with 4:40 to go. Another Sellers three would bring it back to within four, but Green Bay was lock-down in the final 2:06, holding PFW scoreless. Butler and Genke were able to salt away the game from the charity stripe, guiding GB to a 70-61 victory.
