YOUNGSVILLE, La. – It was a tough opening day for the Green Bay softball team, as the Phoenix fell in five innings to the Southeastern Louisiana Lions, 13-0.
Senior Cera Blanchard, senior MC Comeaux, and junior Allison Brunson combined to toss a shutout for the hosts.
Sophomore Paeton Kring (0-1) started in the circle for the Phoenix and took the loss (0-1).
At the plate, the Phoenix was paced by senior Hailey Heckenlaible, who went 2-for-3 on the day. Sophomore Paige Hanson also went 1-for-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Southeastern Louisiana got on the board first with three runs in the first and two more in the second. That lead was extended in the third when the Lions put eight across to extend their lead to 13-0.
GAME NOTES
» SE Louisiana finished with six extra-base hits.
» Sidney LaMotte and Ava Schill both drew walks in pinch-hit appearances for GB.
UP NEXT
Green Bay has a chance to bounce back right away tomorrow when they take on Nicholls at 2 p.m. and Eastern Illinois at 4 p.m. The Phoenix will close out the weekend with another doubleheader on Saturday, starting with Southern at 3:30 p.m. and UL-Monroe at 5:30 p.m.
