GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team fell to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Sunday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium, 1-0. The lone goal of the game was scored in the 43rd minute by Oakland's Shannon Brown.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix controlled much of the first half, and continually put pressure on the Golden Grizzlies goal, evidenced by them outshooting the visitors 8-3. However, Oakland took advantage of one of their three real chances when Marina Downing found Shannon Brown who slotted the ball into the back of the Green Bay net.
The Phoenix offense couldn't get as much going in the second half until a
Trudy Quidzinski strike from the top of the box rattled off the top of the crossbar in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, that was as close as Green Bay got before the final whistle blew.
GAME NOTES
- Mallorie Benhart totaled three saves for the Phoenix out of eight total Golden Grizzlies shots.
- Green Bay outshot OU 12-8 and 5-4 on goal.
- Trudy Quidzinski led the Phoenix with three shots and one on goal.
COMING UP
The Phoenix will hit the road again next weekend against Cleveland State on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT. Following, they'll head to Indianapolis to take on IU Indy on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 3 p.m. CT.
