ST. CHARLES, Mo. – It was a tough day for the Green Bay softball team on Friday, as the Phoenix fell in their first two games of the Lindenwood Invite. GB lost to Valparaiso 1-0 in game one before falling to Lindenwood 3-2 in game two.
GAME 1 | VALPARAISO 1, GREEN BAY 0
Game one went to extra innings, as both pitching staffs threw seven shutout innings. Valpo broke the deadlock in the top of the eighth inning after a GB throwing error allowed the runner who was placed on second at the beginning of the inning to score. GB had a runner on third in the bottom of the eighth but failed to bring them home to prolong the game.
Ava Schill (1-1) was outstanding in the circle for Green Bay, throwing eight innings while allowing just two hits and no earned runs. Four different Phoenix had hits, including Bella Herman, Aidyn Messmann, Paige Hanson, and Grace Kahr.

» The Phoenix out-hit the Beacons at a 4-2 clip.
» Green Bay pitchers limited Valparaiso to just 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
» Green Bay hitters went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
» Sydney McDermott led the Beacons pitching staff, throwing 5.2 shutout innings.
GAME 2 | LINDENWOOD 3, GREEN BAY 2
Trailing 1-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Jenna Redders came across to score the lone run of the inning for Green Bay after an RBI groundout from Herman. Green Bay broke the 1-1 tie in the next inning after an Emma Krueger sac fly scored Marissa Destache.
The Phoenix was unable to hold that lead, as Lindenwood scored once in the sixth and once in the seventh to secure the 3-2 win.
Genesis Eggart (2-3) got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss. The left-hander went 6.2 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.
Green Bay outhit Lindenwood 8-5 but left 11 runners on base in the game. Sara Ebner and Paige Hanson both went 2-for-3 to lead GB offensively.
GAME NOTES
» Eggart limited Lindenwood to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» The Phoenix drew four walks.
» Lindenwood was led offensively by junior Tori Hatton, who went 1-for-3 with a home run.
» Avery Wapp led the Lions pitching staff, throwing seven innings of two-run ball.
UP NEXT
The Green & White will continue the Lindenwood Invite when they take on Lindenwood tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT followed by Western Illinois at 2 p.m. CT. On Sunday, GB will close out the weekend with Western Illinois at 10 a.m. CT.
