ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Green Bay softball team bounced back on Saturday at the Lindenwood Invite, splitting a doubleheader against Lindenwood and Western Illinois. The Phoenix fell in game one to the Lions 8-2 before downing the Leathernecks by a score of 10-5.
Green Bay will look to make it two in a row against Western Illinois tomorrow at 10 a.m. CT as they close out the Lindenwood Invite.
GAME 1 | LINDENWOOD 8, GREEN BAY 2
The Phoenix got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning after a fielder's choice from
Paige Hanson scored
Kendal Herschbach. Lindenwood responded in the bottom of the second with a two-run, two-hit second inning off of Phoenix starter
Paeton Kringel.
The Lions added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth before breaking the game open with a five-run fifth inning to take an 8-1 lead. Green Bay got an RBI single from
Sidney LaMotte in the top of the sixth, but that was as close as they got.
Kringel pitched four innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs. Ryleigh Owens got the win for the Lions, pitching six scoreless innings.

» Lindenwood was led offensively by junior Dallis Darnell, who went 2-for-2 with a triple and four RBI.
GAME 2 | GREEN BAY 10, WESTERN ILLINOIS 5
The Phoenix was trailing 2-0 in the first inning but responded in the same frame with RBIs from
Bella Herman and Hanson. Herman flew out to Center to score Herschbach before Hanson drove
Sara Ebner home to tie the game at 2.
The GB offense stayed hot, breaking the game open with a four-run bottom of the second to take a 6-2 lead. The Phoenix got RBI in the second from Herschbach, Ebner, and two from Hanson on a triple.
Western Illinois narrowed Green Bay's lead to 6-5 before the Phoenix stretched the advantage to 10-5 in the sixth inning after another four-run inning. The sixth was once again led by Hanson's bat, who drove two more home with a double.
Hanson had a monster game at the plate to lead GB, going 3-for-4 with five RBI. Ebner had a good game as well, finishing 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Herschbach rounded out the top of the GB offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Genesis Eggart (3-3) got the win for Green Bay. The
left-hander went seven innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits, allowing four walks and striking out three.

» 10 runs is a season-high for the Phoenix.
» Hanson's five RBI is a career-high.
» The Phoenix out-hit the Leathernecks at an 11-7 clip.
» Green Bay went 6-for-16 (.375) with runners in scoring position.

COMING UP
After taking on Western Illinois tomorrow, the Phoenix will have a weekend off before opening the Horizon League season on the road against Northern Kentucky from March 14-15.
