GREEN BAY, Wis - The Green Bay softball team dropped a doubleheader in its home-opening action on Friday afternoon at King Park. GB fell 4-2 in game one before falling 8-2 in game two. Freshman Grace Kahr was the highlight of the day for Green Bay, combining to go 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI across the two games.
GAME 1 | Robert Morris 4, Green Bay 2
The Green and White fell behind in the first inning when RMU's Anna Resnik launched a homer over the center field wall, putting the Colonials out in front 1-0. Neither team would score again until the fifth inning when Courtney Poulich lifted a fly ball deep enough into left field to score Kaylyn Hopf, extending RMU's lead to 2-0. Green Bay got on the board in the bottom of the frame when Kahr laid a perfect sacrifice bunt to bring in Paige Hanson, cutting Robert Morris' lead in half. The Colonials ended the remaining threat and added insurance in the seventh with an RBI single from Logan Black, followed by an RBI single from Kopf, making it 4-1 RMU. Emma Krueger scored for the Phoenix on a wild pitch, but the Phoenix came up short of completing a rally in the 4-2 loss.
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay pitchers limited Robert Morris to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» Genesis Eggart pitched all seven innings for GB, surrendering just one earned run. She struck out seven and gave up five hits.
GAME 2 | Robert Morris 8, Green Bay 2
Just like the first game, Robert Morris struck in the opening inning on a triple from Mary Brant, scoring Resnik. Green Bay had a tough time getting the bats going, and RMU tacked on a four-spot in the third frame, getting Black to score on a fielder's choice before Brant crushed a three-run home run over the right-center field wall to make it 5-0 Colonials. Paige Hanson helped the Phoenix get on the scoreboard with an RBI single in the fourth inning, before Bella Herman ripped a triple to the right field corner, scoring Kahr to pull within three at 5-2. That's as close as GB would get, surrendering three more runs in the top of the seventh, falling 8-2.

» Green Bay pitchers limited Robert Morris to just 2-for-11 (.182) with runners in scoring position.
