Phoenix Falls Twice in St. Thomas Doubleheader

GREEN BAY, Wis. – It was a tough afternoon for the Green Bay softball team, as they dropped both games of a doubleheader against St. Thomas. The Tommies took game one 10-2 before wrapping up game two 14-1.

GAME 1 | St. Thomas 10, Green Bay 2
A five-run first inning gave the Tommies control of the contest early. The Phoenix responded early however and cut into the St. Thomas lead in the bottom half of the first. Sara Ebner scored the first Green Bay run on a wild pitch, and Brooke Schwall drove home Jenna Redders with a sac fly to make it 5-2 after one inning.

UST extended that lead back to five after an Ella Cook home run in the second. That lead ballooned even further with a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to make it 10-2. Green Bay was unable to generate any more offense after the first inning.

Genesis Eggart started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. Viviana Guzman went five innings in relief for the Phoenix, and Megan Weiss pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two. Christina Crawford got the start and the win for the Tommies.

Ebner led GB at the dish, finishing with three of GB's four hits. Kendal Herschbach also went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Green Bay had a rebuttal in the bottom of the second when Paeton Kringel singled home Claire Coushman to cut the St. Thomas lead to 3-1. Unfortunately for GB, that was as close as they would get, with the Tommies scoring 11 unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the game short after five.
