ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Green Bay softball team dropped two games in day two of the DePaul Dome Tournament, falling to Drake in game one 8-2, followed by Valparaiso 10-4.
GAME 1 | Drake 8, Green Bay 2
The Green Bay offense struggled in game one on Saturday, falling to the Drake Bulldogs 8-2 despite the efforts of Sara Ebner, who went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Ava Schill (0-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. Jasmyn Trigueros was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit and striking out two.
Aside from Ebner's strong day at the plate, Paige Guse had a noteworthy performance, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix was trailing 2-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Green Bay got an RBI single from Guse, scoring Ebner from second base to cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 3-1 before the Phoenix offense got back to work, cutting into that lead once again in the second. Green Bay pushed across a run on Ebner's two-out RBI double. The Phoenix was unable to get any closer, as Drake added two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to cruise to the 8-2 win.
