Bats Stay Hot as Green Bay Secures Doubleheader Sweep over UW-River Falls

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay softball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins over Division III UW-River Falls, winning 11-6 and 12-1 on Tuesday at King Field.

GAME 1 | Green Bay 11, UW-River Falls 6
Paeton Kringel (1-3) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Green Bay. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, allowing five walks, and striking out one.

Gracie Anderson led Phoenix hitters, going 2-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Paige Guse went 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Sara Ebner also chipped in for Green Bay, going 2-for-4, including a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix scored immediately in the bottom of the first inning when Bella Herman doubled home Ebner. Anderson added a sac-fly, Guse had a two RBI double, and Claire Cushman had an RBI single to give Green Bay a 5-0 lead after the first inning.

UW-River Falls rallied to tie the ballgame at five in the second inning after a solo home run from Hannah Effertz and a three-run home run from Grace Gardner. Green Bay managed to push across two runs in the bottom half of the inning, bringing the Phoenix lead to 7-5 after two.

Kringel held the Falcons scoreless in the third inning before GB expanded their lead to 9-5 in the bottom of the inning. The Phoenix executed a first and third double steal to score the first run of the inning before Anderson singled and drove in another.

Green Bay tallied runs in the fifth and sixth after RBI doubles from Ebner and Alyssa DeMaio to push their lead to 11-5.

River Falls rallied to load the bases in the seventh, and Amanda Holzhueter drew a walk to cut the deficit to five, but couldn't push any more runs across before falling 11-6.

GAME NOTES
» Every Green Bay starter reached base safely in the win.
» Green Bay went 5-for-12 (.417) with runners in scoring position.
» Green Bay pitchers faced 33 UW-River Falls hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and four fly balls while striking out four.
» The Phoenix drew six walks from Wisconsin-River Falls pitching.
» Wisconsin-River Falls was led offensively by Lacie Lilyquist, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.
» Lucy Knutson led the Falcons' pitching staff, throwing 4.2 innings of four-run ball.

GAME 2 | Green Bay 12, Wisconsin-River Falls 1
Megan Weiss (1-0) got the win for Green Bay in just her second appearance this season in the circle. The right-hander went four innings, giving up one run on five hits. 

Sydney LaMotte led Green Bay, going 2-for-2 with a double and a home run, driving in four with those two hits. Paige Guse had a standout performance as well, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI. Gracie Anderson also chipped in again for Green Bay, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay plated two runs when LaMotte left the yard for the fourth time in the last five games with Brooke Schwall aboard to take an early 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Addison Eaton cut the Phoenix lead in half on an RBI double, scoring Lacie Lilyquist in the top of the third inning. The Green Bay offense responded in the bottom of the inning, exploding for nine runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Katherine Filkowski and a two-run double from LaMotte, which brought the score to 11-1 in favor of the Phoenix.

Green Bay held the Falcons scoreless the remainder of the game and added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ava Schill pitched a scoreless fifth inning, as the Phoenix run-ruled UWRF 12-1.

» Green Bay's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed nine runs across, the highest in an inning this season.
» Four Phoenix players had multi-hit games.
» The Phoenix out-hit the Falcons at a 12-5 clip.
» Green Bay went 5-for-13 (.385) with runners in scoring position.
» The Phoenix drew four walks from UW-River Falls pitching.
» UW-River Falls was led offensively by Addison Eaton, who went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

COMING UP
The Phoenix begins the month of April by returning to Horizon League play. Green Bay hosts a three-game series against Northern Kentucky, beginning with a double header on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m. CST. The series finale is on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. CST.
