WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Green Bay softball team dropped a pair of games, losing to Northern Illinois 7-1 and Purdue 9-0 on Monday to conclude the Boilermaker Softball Classic.
GAME 1 | Northern Illinois 7, Green Bay 1
Freshman Jasmyn Trigueros (2-6) got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss.
At the plate, the Phoenix was led by sophomore Sara Ebner, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northern Illinois took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning after a Mia Morena two-RBI double and a Kayla Estrada RBI single. Green Bay got an RBI single from Ebner, scoring junior Sidney LaMotte from second base in the second inning. NIU scored one run in the second inning and three runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Green Bay was unable to plate a run for the rest of the game, falling 7-1 to the Huskies.
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay pitchers faced 38 Northern Illinois hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out two.
» Northern Illinois was led offensively by sophomore Mia Morera, who went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and three RBIs.
» Junior Hannah Bolly led the Huskies' pitching staff, throwing five shutout innings.
GAME 2 | Purdue 9, Green Bay 0
Freshman Morgan Kostecka (0-5) started in the circle for Green Bay (4-17), pitching 1.1 innings, giving up seven runs on five hits, while recording one strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Purdue scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning after an Ashlynn Campbell two-RBI single and a Delaney Reefe two-RBI double. Purdue added on three more runs in the second inning, one in the third, and one in the fourth to take a 9-0 lead. Jenna Redders hit a double, and LaMotte had a single in the fifth inning, but the Phoenix was unable to score a run, losing 9-0 in five innings.

» Green Bay pitchers faced 23 Purdue hitters in the game, allowing two ground balls and six fly balls while recording two strikeouts.
» Senior Kendall Herschbach and sophomore Brooke Schwall tallied the other two hits for the Green Bay offense.
» Purdue was led offensively by senior Haley Painter, who went 2 for 2 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs.
» Malone Moore pitched a five-inning complete game shutout, allowing four hits, and tallying four strikeouts.

Green Bay will open up Horizon League play on March 20 for a three-game series at Robert Morris.
