DAYTON, Ohio - The Green Bay men's and women's swimming
and diving teams opened their 2009-10 season with a dual meet at Wright State
Thursday afternoon at the WSU Natatorium. The women's team won a close matchup 124-119, while the
men's squad fell 128-93.
Seniors Mary Stravinski (DeForest, Wis.) and Ashley Warzon
(Sussex, Wis.) had solid nights for the Phoenix women, winning two times each. Stravinski
took the 100-yard backstroke in 59.99, while her classmate won the 100-yard
butterfly in 58.70. Both swimmers were also part of Green Bay's winning 200
medley relay, along with Renee Reindl (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Emilee Harry
(Sheboygan, Wis.).
Other individual winners for the Phoenix women included
junior Alyssa Danielson (Rogers, Minn.) in the 50 free (24.77), sophomore Lauren Caruso (DeForest, Wis.) in the 100 breast (1:07.26) and senior Lauren McGraw
(Woodbury, Minn.) in the 3-meter dive (250.95).
On the men's side, Green Bay got individual wins from
senior Alex Hill (Lakeville, Minn.) in the 500 free (4:43.51), junior Jason Askew (Durban, South Africa) in the 100 breast (1:00.05) and Daniel Pogue
(Chisholm, Minn.) in the 3-meter diving event (285.67).
The Phoenix continues its three-day, three-meet Ohio road
trip tomorrow at Youngstown State and Saturday at Cleveland State.
