CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Green Bay swimming and diving teams
wrapped up their three-day Ohio road trip Saturday afternoon at league rival
Cleveland State. The women's squad (3-0) earned its third straight dual meet
victory, edging the Vikings 123-120, while the men (0-2) fell 134-105.
The Phoenix won just two of the meet's 13 events on the
women's side, but was able to record enough high finishes to hold on for the
win. In the men's competition, the Phoenix recorded victories in five events.
Sophomore Amy Burback (Waunakee, Wis.) was the lone
double-winner for the Phoenix women, taking the 200-yard breaststroke in
2:24.33 and combining with Mary Stravinski (DeForest, Wis.), Renee Reindl (Pewaukee,
Wis.) and Ashley Warzon (Sussex, Wis.) to win the 400 medley relay in 3:59.36.
Senior Alex Hill (Lakeville, Minn.) was a three-time
winner for the Phoenix men, taking both the 100 and 200 freestyle events in
46.52 and 1:43.45, as well as teaming up with Ryan Loy (New London, Wis.), Tim Scanlan (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) and Travis Mathers (Baraboo, Wis.) for a victory
in the 400 free relay (3:08.51).
Sophomore diver Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.), the Diver
of the Meet at the 2009 Horizon League Championships, also had a strong day for
the Green Bay men. Pogue won both diving events, taking the 1-meter board with
a score of 295.05 and the 3-meter board with 278.25 points.
The Green Bay swimming and diving teams are now off from
competition until Nov. 7 when they return home for a pair of meets against
South Dakota State at the Dorschel Natatorium.
