GREEN BAY, Wis. - After
having a week off, the Green Bay (11-2-2, 4-2-0) men's soccer team returned to
action with a 2-0 non-conference win over Oral Roberts (6-7-2, 2-2-1) on
Sunday.
The Phoenix scored both of its goals in the first period of
action en route to the shutout victory.
"It was great for us to get the shutout victory after giving
up three goals against Valparaiso," said head coach Tom Poitras.
The first goal happened in the 19th minute when
JC Banks (Milwaukee, Wis.) kicked it in from the left corner and senior Tyler Rosenberg (Grafton, Wis.) made the header goal for the 1-0 lead.
Nearly 14 minutes later Francois Basty (Beauzelle, France)
had a free kick from the left side of the field. The ball was tipped by several
players when Green Bay's Scott Raymonds' (Brookfield, Wis.) header shot hit the
post and the ball crossed the line coming down and gave the Phoenix the 2-0
advantage at the break.
It was a quiet second half with a total of ten shots (Green
Bay 7, Oral Roberts 3) and three corner kicks. Goalie Ryan Wehking (St. Louis,
Mo.) once again came up with three big saves for the Phoenix.
Green Bay will play their final home game on Friday against
conference rival Milwaukee at 7 p.m. before finishing off their regular season
on the road at Loyola on Nov. 7.
