GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay men's and women's
swimming and diving teams each earned comfortable dual meet wins Friday evening
at the Dorschel Natatorium over non-conference opponent St. Cloud State. The
Phoenix men's squad had a winner in all 13 events for the second straight night
en route to a 158-79 victory, while the women's team cruised to a 152-86 win by
taking 12 of 13 events.
For the second time in as many days, senior Alex Hill
(Lakeville, Minn.) and junior Ryan Loy (New London, Wis.) were both three-event
winners. Hill tallied individual wins in the 200-yard (1:43.65) and 500-yard
(4:44.13) freestyle events, while Loy claimed the 50 free (21.65) and 200
butterfly (1:56.52). The pair then teamed up with junior Tim Scanlan (Whitefish
Bay, Wis.) and freshman Tyler Evans (Lodi, Wis.) to win the 400 free relay
(3:11.34) in the final event of the night.
The Phoenix men also took the 400 medley relay, as the
team of Alex Hallam (Wausau, Wis.), Jason Askew (Durban, South Africa), Dan Judge (Decatur, Ill.) and Travis Mathers (Baraboo, Wis.) finished in a time of
3:34.92.
In men's diving, sophomore Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.)
won both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 301.58 and 314.85.
Other individual winners for the Phoenix men include: Askew
in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.24), Evans in the 100 free (48.04), junior Dustin Dietrich (Kiel, Wis.) in the 1000 free (10:08.13), freshman Rudy da Costa (Durban,
South Africa) in the 400 individual medley (4:15.50) and sophomore Riley Egger
(Marshfield, Wis.) in the 200 backstroke (1:58.14).
On the women's side, junior Shannon Demrow (Algonquin,
Ill.) continued her outstanding season with three more victories to lead the
Phoenix. Demrow took the 200 (1:56.07) and 500 (5:08.63) free events, then
aided Green Bay's winning 400 free relay squad (3:36.88), along with junior
Alyssa Danielson (Rogers, Minn.), junior Katelyn Bodin (Maple Grove, Minn.) and
freshman Lauren Heilman (Sun Prairie, Wis.).
Danielson was also a member of Green Bay's victorious 400
medley relay, teaming up with seniors Mary Stravinski (DeForest, Wis.), Ashley Warzon (Sussex, Wis.) and Renee Reindl (Pewaukee, Wis.) for a winning time of
3:57.95.
Senior Lauren McGraw (Woodbury, Minn.) was the winner of
both diving events, taking the 1-meter board with a score of 273.15 and the 3-meter
with a score of 253.73.
Other individual winners for the Green Bay women include:
Stravinski in the 200 back (2:09.12), Warzon in the 200 fly (2:10.76), Bodin in
the 100 free (54.03), junior Deanna DeGrand (Green Bay, Wis.) in the 1000 free
(10:35.71) and sophomore Lauren Caruso (DeForest, Wis.) in the 400 IM and 200
breast.
The Phoenix and the Huskies square off again tomorrow
afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Dorschel Natatorium. It will wrap up Green Bay's
stretch of three home meets in three days.
