GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and
diving teams each defeated St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon at the Dorschel Natatorium
for their second wins over the Huskies in as many days. With the victories, the
Phoenix women improve to a perfect 8-0 in dual meets on the year, while the
men's squad extended its winning streak to five meets to improve to 5-2.
The Green Bay men's squad won 10 of the meet's 13 events to cruise
to a 150-87 win, while the women's team took nine of 13 events, earning a 141.5-99.5
victory.
Senior diver Lauren McGraw (Woodbury, Minn.) had a solid afternoon
from the boards, winning both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Her 1-meter score
of 270.90 qualified her for the NCAA Zone diving competition at the end of the
season, joining men's diver Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.), who qualified on
Thursday against South Dakota.
Senior Alex Hill (Lakeville, Minn.) won three times for the Green
Bay men, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 21.49 and the 100 free in 46.86. Hill
was also a member the winning 200 free relay (1:25.00), along with teammates
Ryan Loy (New London, Wis.), Travis Mathers (Baraboo, Wis.) and Tyler Evans (Lodi,
Wis.).
Loy and Evans also teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in
1:36.99, along with sophomore Alex Hallam (Wausau, Wis.) and junior Jason Askew
(Durban, South Africa). In addition to the relay wins, Loy finished first in
the 100 butterfly in 52.35.
In the 800 free relay, Hallam, Mathers, Brendan Reilly (Wayzata,
Minn.) and Ryan McClure (Omro, Wis.) won in 7:16.58. The Green Bay women also
won the 800 free relay, as Amy Burback (Waunakee, Wis.), Shannon Demrow
(Algonquin, Ill.), Allison Thut (Green Bay, Wis.) and Katelyn Bodin (Maple
Grove, Minn.) won in 7:51.37.
Demrow was victorious individually in the 200 free, finishing in 1:55.39.
Another multi-event winner for the Phoenix women was sophomore Lauren Caruso
(DeForest, Wis.), who took the 200 IM in 2:11.04 and the 100 breast in 1:06.84.
Other first-place finishers for the Green Bay men include: Mathers
in the 1650 free (16:50.32), Askew in the 100 breast (59.95), Pogue in 3-meter
diving (312.90) and Andrew Gelden (Kenosha, Wis.) in the 200 individual medley (1:59.31).
Other women's winners were: Deanna DeGrand (Green Bay, Wis.) in
the 1650 free (17:52.53), Ashley Warzon (Sussex, Wis.) in the 100
fly (57.98) and Alyssa Danielson (Rogers, Minn.) in
the 100 (53.81).
The Green Bay swimming and diving teams return to action next
Friday at 6 p.m. against Horizon League rival Valparaiso at the Dorschel
Natatorium.
