GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay men's and women's
swimming and diving teams each picked up a pair of dual meet victories against
South Dakota State on Saturday at the Dorschel Natatorium. The Phoenix women
won the morning portion of the doubleheader 155-87 and took the afternoon meet
213-83. The men's squad won 156-83 in the opener, and then earned a 196.5-100.5
win later in the day. With the wins, the women's team improves to 5-0 on the
year, while the men's squad is 2-2.
In the morning meet, the Phoenix women won 10 of the 13
events, while the men took 11 of the 13. In the second meet, the Green Bay
women earned victories of 14 of the 16 events, while the men's squad took 15 of
16.
Junior Shannon Demrow (Algonquin, Ill.) had a big day for
the Phoenix women, winning three times in each meet. In the morning meet, Demrow
took the 1000-yard freestyle (10:41.68) and the 100 free (54.44) and was also a
member of the winning 400 free relay (3:39.59). In the afternoon, she won the
200 free (1:56.75) and the 50-yard butterfly (26.42). She was also a member of
Green Bay's winning 200 medley relay (1:49.60).
Freshman Tyler Evans (Lodi, Wis.) had a successful home
debut for the Phoenix men's squad, winning five times on the day. In the
morning, Evans picked up wins in the 50 free (21.74) and the 100 free (48.07).
In the second meet, the freshman was a member of Green Bay's winning 200 medley
(1:39.45) and 200 free (1:29.75) relay squads. He also notched an individual
win in the 100 free (48.49).
In the diving events, Green Bay senior Lauren McGraw
(Woodbury, Minn.) swept the women's 1-meter and 3-meter boards in both meets,
while sophomore Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) took both boards in the morning
and the afternoon for the Phoenix men.
The Phoenix is back in action next week with a trio of
home meets, beginning on Thursday against South Dakota, followed by a pair of
meetings with St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday.
