INDIANAPOLIS - The Green Bay men's tennis team wrapped up its 2009 season Sunday with a tough 4-0 setback to Butler in the third-place match of the Horizon League Championship.

In a match that was much closer than the score revealed, the Phoenix battled tough against the Bulldogs. Green Bay led in three singles matches, but Butler closed the deal with a trio of straight-set wins to go with the doubles point.

In doubles, the difference was at the No. 1 position where Lenz Theodor and Steve McLoughlin of Butler edged Green Bay's Henning Jess and Eric Plaushines 8-6. Green Bay posted an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles thanks to Mike Wesley and Brian McCarthy.

The Bulldogs kept momentum in singles action, but Green Bay showed its grit. At No. 2 singles, Paul Swanson came back from a one-set deficit to win the second set and had a lead in the decisive third set before action was halted with Butler's wins at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 singles to conclude the match.

At No. 5 singles, Matt Keesey won the first set and was leading 6-5 in the second set before the match was decided, while Matt Clegg had captured a first-set win at No. 1 singles.
