PITTSBURGH, PA - The
Green Bay (3-0-1) men's soccer team continued their five game road trip and
picked up another win along the way. The Phoenix shutout Pittsburgh University (1-3)
1-0 with the lone goal coming late in the first half.
"It was good to get our first shutout tonight but we need to capitalize on the numerous chances we created," said head coach Tom Poitras.
Last week's Horizon League Player of the Week, JC Banks
(Milwaukee, Wis.) found freshman Andrew Stone (Green Bay, Wis.) with a pass from
the top of the box to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead at the break. Green Bay did
not allow Pittsburgh a shot the entire first half outshooting the Panthers
16-0, "The team defense was solid tonight and we limited their chances to a couple of crosses," said Poitras.
The second half was much like the first in the fact that the
Phoenix was in control. Green Bay finished the game with 26 shots compared to
Pitt's four. Tony Walls (Wauwatosa, Wis.) was aggressive at the net for the
Phoenix taking nine shots while Stone had five.
Green Bay will have a day to rest before heading to Robert
Morris University on Sunday with kickoff set for noon. The Phoenix will wrap up
its five game stretch Sept. 18 at sunny San Diego State.
