GREEN BAY, Wis. - The
Green Bay (5-0-2) men's soccer team added another victory to its win column
Monday night as the Phoenix dominated North Florida (0-6-0) with a 4-1 win at Aldo
Santaga Stadium.
Horizon League goal leader JC Banks (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored
first for the Phoenix 20 minutes into the contest off an unassisted goal to give Green Bay the
1-0 lead.
Less than seven minutes later Banks scored again; this time off
a throw-in from Tyler Rosenberg (Grafton, Wis.) followed by a head pass from Francois Basty (Beauzelle, France). Banks' goal was his career-high
seventh of the year and second time this season he scored twice in a game.
Green Bay led 2-0 at the break outshooting North Florida
11-2 and 4-1 in corner kicks.
In the second period David Prochazka (Gothenburg, Sweeden)
played the ball out to sophomore Stuart Grable (Neenah, Wis.) who found Ilya Ksenidi (West Allis, Wis.) from the top of the box for Ksenidi's second goal of
the season, boosting Green Bay's lead to 3-0.
Ten minutes later, senior David Znaty (Hadera, Israel) got
in on the scoring when Ksenidi took a shot that rebounded off the post and was
kicked in by Znaty for the 4-0 lead.
North Florida avoided the shutout when Adam O'Neill shot one
over the head of goalie Ryan Wehking (St. Louis, Mo.) to finish off the scoring
for the evening.
In front of 410 spectators, the Phoenix dominated the
Ospreys on shots (21-7) and improved to an impressive 5-0-2 on the season. "Great
atmosphere once again tonight, good to be back home," said head coach Tom Poitras.
Green Bay will open up Horizon League play on Friday as the team travels to Wright State followed by a trip to Butler on Sunday. "We have a big
weekend ahead of us. Everyone in the conference is undefeated right now and
going on the road to open up League play is never easy," said Poitras.
The Phoenix will be
back home Friday, Oct.2 to host Detroit.
