GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay men's and women's
swimming and diving teams were back in action Saturday afternoon for the first time
since returning from their annual training trip to Florida, playing host to
Horizon League rival UIC at the Dorschel Natatorium. The Phoenix women improved
to 11-1 in dual meets this season, winning 153-85, while the men's squad fell 136-107
to move to 6-3.
It was Senior Day for the Phoenix, as the swimming and
diving program recognized its 13 seniors before the meet began.
Junior Deanna DeGrand (Green Bay, Wis.) had a solid day
for the Green Bay women, taking the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:31.06 and the 500
free in 5:08.16.
Senior Ashley Warzon (Sussex, Wis.) celebrated Senior Day
by setting a new pool record in the 200 butterfly. Warzon cruised to a victory
with a time of 2:07.35.
On the diving boards, Phoenix standouts Daniel Pogue
(Chisholm, Minn.) and Lauren McGraw (Woodbury, Minn.) each had big days. Pogue
took the 1-meter (285.23) and 3-meter (258.00) events, while McGraw also won
both boards (1-meter: 264.83, 3-meter: 258.15).
The Phoenix men and women are back in the water next
Saturday, Jan. 23, when they head downstate to face off against the Wisconsin
Badgers. The meet is scheduled for 2 p.m.
