GREEN BAY,
Wis. -- The Green Bay men's swimming and diving team hosted Illinois Tech
Friday afternoon at the Dorschel Natatorium, defeating the Scarlet Hawks 182-105
to improve to 7-4 on the year. The Phoenix won 15 of the meet's 16 events in
the team's final home event of the season.
A pair of
Durban, South Africa natives had strong showings for the Phoenix against IIT,
as junior Jason Askew and freshman Rudy da Costa were each two-time individual winners.
Askew took the 100-yard (59.04) and 200-yard (2:10.56) breaststroke events,
while da Costa won the 200 backstroke (1:55.00) and 200 individual medley
(1:59.57). In addition, Askew was also a member of Green Bay's winning 400
medley relay (3:32.82).
Other
individual winners for the Phoenix included: Travis Mathers (Baraboo, Wis.) in
the 1000 freestyle (9:58.39), Tyler Evans (Lodi, Wis.) in the 200 free
(1:46.74), Riley Egger (Marshfield, Wis.) in the 100 back (54.97), Dan Judge
(Decatur, Ill.) in the 200 butterfly (1:58.90), Ryan Loy (New London, Wis.) in
the 50 free (21.74), Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) in the 1-meter dive
(298.20), Kyle Eberle (Sun Prairie, Wis.) in the 100 free (50.18), Tim Scanlan
(Whitefish Bay, Wis.) in the 500 free (4:49.98) and Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia,
Wis.) in the 3-meter dive (270.15).
The Phoenix
men's squad is back in action next Saturday, Feb. 6 when it travels to
Milwaukee to face the Panthers in the regular season finale. The women's squad
takes on Illinois State tomorrow at 11 a.m.
