GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Time has flown by quickly for women's tennis player,
Emily Lawent, who finds herself finishing her last fall season and approaching
her final spring as a college student-athlete.
"I feel like it was only just yesterday that I was attending
my first practice here. I am sad that the successful four years is coming to an
end, " said Lawent.
Over the past four years, the senior standout has found
success both athletically and academically.
Lawent has made a significant contribution to the team since
day one. Even as a freshman she took on the daunting task of playing the No. 1
singles and doubles positions.
"It was a difficult position to play my first year, but in
the end it was a rewarding experience because I was able to improve my game and
learn how to adapt it in order to win," said Lawent.
Last year, Lawent had a successful spring season, receiving
first team All-Horizon League honors with conference records of 5-3 at No.1
singles and 4-3 at No. 1 doubles and an overall singles record of 10-8.
In addition to her accomplishments on the tennis court,
Lawent has also excelled academically throughout her years as a Phoenix. She
has been on the academic honor roll every semester and has maintained a GPA of
3.94. She is currently pursuing a double major in Elementary Education and
Spanish.
"After this year, my plans are to travel abroad and attend
graduate school," said Lawent.
Lawent and the other women's tennis players will be
returning to action on January 23 against Marquette.
