GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving head coach Jim
Merner has announced the signing of seven student-athletes who will join
the Phoenix for the 2011-12 season. Six have signed National Letters of Intent
(NLIs) to join the men's squad in the fall, while the women's team adds one in
the early signing period.
The
men's signing class includes Geoffrey Glover (McFarland,
Wis./McFarland), Matt Hollub (Appleton, Wis./Neenah), Ryan Korslin
(Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Wisconsin Rapids), Ben Loeffelholz (Dubuque,
Iowa/Dubuque Hempstead), Evan Miller (Wausau, Wis./Wausau East) and Casey
Murphy (Sun Prairie, Wis.), while Taylor Crain (New London, Wis./New
London) is set to join the Phoenix women.
"I'm
very excited about this incoming class," Merner said. "Each of the signees has
been successful at the high school and club levels and I'm really looking
forward to seeing what they will be able to accomplish at the collegiate level.
I think several of them will be able to come in right away and make an impact
next season."

Taylor Crain
"I'm
very pleased that Taylor has accepted this opportunity to join our women's team
next year. She is an outstanding breaststroke specialist in both the 100 and
200-yard distances. She has the potential to immediately come in and compete as
a possible finalist at the Horizon League Championships."
Geoffrey Glover
"Geoffrey
is an outstanding young man, very talented backstroke and individual medley
swimmer and a member of a high school state championship team the past three
years. He knows what it takes to be a winner and will bring that to our team
next year. I'm very happy he will be joining us next fall."
Matt Hollub
"Matt
is a very well-rounded swimming talent. He is an excellent backstroker, sprint
freestyler and a good middle distance swimmer who will make a strong statement
on our team next year. I am very pleased to have this young man on our team.
Without a doubt his best swimming is yet to come."
Ryan Korslin
"Getting
at least one breaststroker was a goal for us this fall and we certainly hit the
target center with Ryan. He is very talented and yet somewhat raw with a huge
upside. Ryan took second at last year's Division 1 state championships in the
100 breast and should be an excellent 200 breaststroker at the college level as
well."
Ben Loeffelholz
"This
is an exciting signing for us this fall. As a junior, Ben was the state
champion in the 100 freestyle. He is a proven winner in the sprints and is also
an accomplished butterflyer and freestyler. I couldn't be happier that he has committed
to become a part of this program."
Evan Miller
"Evan
is just starting to show what he is capable of and it is going to be very
exciting to watch his collegiate progress in the butterfly races and sprint
freestyle races. I believe that Evan is going to surprise many people this year
in high school swimming and we look forward to his success at Green Bay next
year."
Casey Murphy
"Sprint
free, breaststroke, individual medley - you name it and he can do it all. This
is an outstanding signing for us. Casey is a YMCA national qualifier who has
experienced great success in club swimming and will represent our team next
year at a very high level. No matter where we use him, he will greatly help
this team."
