Green Bay Concludes Day Three of Horizon League Meet

CHICAGO - The Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up day three of the 2010 Horizon League Championships Friday night at the Flames Natatorium on the UIC campus. The Phoenix women's squad extended its lead heading into the final day of competition, opening up an 82.5-point advantage over second place Wright State. The men's team finished the night in fifth, with Milwaukee leading the field.

The women had a number of high finishers on Friday, helping the Phoenix separate itself from the rest of the field. In the 400-yard IM, Amber Bartholomew (Alexandria, Minn.) earned a second place finish in 4:24.97. The sophomore's time shattered Danielle DeGrand's school record of 4:29.07, set in 2006. Junior Shannon Demrow (Algonquin, Ill.) also recorded a blazing time in the event, finishing in 4:28.00, good for fourth place.

In the 100 breaststroke, the Phoenix women placed third and fourth as senior Renee Reindl (Pewaukee, Wis.) finished in 1:03.49 and sophomore Amy Burback (Waunakee, Wis.) finished in 1:04.46. Reindl's time broke the 2006 school record of 1:04.69, set by Allison Kreb.

Senior Ashley Warzon (Sussex, Wis.) also had a solid performance for the Phoenix women, placing second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.16.

Green Bay had a strong showing in the men's 1-meter diving event, placing three in the top six, including first and second place. Junior Wilson Robinson (Hibbing, Minn.) won his first-ever individual Horizon League championship, tallying a score of 308.40 for the victory. Robinson's score also qualified him for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships held in March. Sophomore Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) was the runner-up, recording a score of 295.95, while freshman Mitchell Spaeth (Fredonia, Wis,) scored a 261.75 for sixth place.

Junior Jason Askew (Durban, South Africa) set a school record in the 100 breast, finishing in a time of 56.80. It broke his own record of 57.37, set a year ago.

The Green Bay men and women are back in action tomorrow for the fourth and final day of the 2010 Horizon League Championships, with prelims beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals starting 6 p.m.
