GREEN
BAY, Wis. - Green Bay sophomore Paul Swanson was named Horizon League Men's
Tennis Player of the Week for the period of March 15-21, the conference office
announced Tuesday. He is the first Phoenix to win the award since former star Mark
Golden on March 21, 2007.
Swanson,
a native of Coon Rapids, Minn., helped Green Bay go 2-0 to open conference
action last week. In singles action he went 2-0, winning at No. 2 singles
against Valparaiso (6-4, 6-4) on Saturday and in the top spot against UIC (3-6,
7-5, 6-0) on Sunday.
Swanson
also teamed with Henning Jess to register doubles victories against Valpo (8-5)
and UIC (8-1).
The Phoenix has now won five straight matches and eight of
its past nine overall. Green Bay is next in action at Cleveland State on
Saturday.
