BOARDMAN, Ohio --
Green Bay's men's tennis team returned to its winning ways on Sunday, as it easily
dispatched Youngstown State 6-1 at the Boardman Tennis Center. Green Bay (11-6,
3-1 Horizon League) won five of the six singles matches and two of the three
doubles contests to earn its sixth victory in seven outings.
Paul Swanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) grabbed a 6-3, 6-4 victory
at No. 1 singles to continue his strong campaign. He also teamed with Marko Skoric (Zagreb, Croatia) for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Green Bay suffered defeat at No. 2 singles, but dominated
the rest of the spots. Fabian Gogolin (Cologne, Germany) earned a 6-0, 6-0
whitewashing at No. 3. On the fourth line, Josh Oothoudt (Minot, N.D.) dropped
just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 result, while Skoric did the same at No. 5 (6-1,
6-1).
Green Bay also earned a default victory at No. 6 to complete
the scoring. Matt Clegg (Stevens Point, Wis.) and Henning Jess (Kaltenkirchen,
Germany) were the other doubles team to win, posting an 8-5 victory at No. 2.
The Phoenix completes its road season this weekend when it
faces Butler and Wright State.
