INDIANAPOLIS,
Ind. - The Green Bay men's tennis team suffered a tough 6-1 loss at Butler on
Friday in a contest in which four of the six singles matches went to three sets.
As a result of the defeat, the Phoenix fell to 11-8 overall and 3-3 in Horizon
League play.
The
lone singles winner for the Phoenix was Henning Jess (Kaltenkirchen, Germany),
who claimed a 7-6, 0-6, 7-6 victory over Lenz Theodor at No. 5.
Green
Bay also had a doubles squad pick up a win, as Matt Clegg (Stevens Point, Wis.)
and Marko Skoric (Zagreb, Croatia) secured an 8-4 triumph.
Green
Bay lost a trio of three-setters in singles play, with Paul Swanson (Coon
Rapids, Minn.) at No. 1, Fabian Gogolin (Cologne, Germany) at No. 3 and Josh Oothoudt (Minot, N.D.) at No. 4. As a result the final score was not indicative
of the quality of the match.
The
Phoenix is next in action at Wright State on Saturday.
